We are coming to the end of another year at Carew Youth Club and the members could not have asked for a better way to finish. Twenty youngsters were lucky enough to go to Cilgerran to the Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve where the Fforest Outdoor company are based. The members went up there to do the second of three canoeing sessions. This time they were lucky enough to enjoy the outstanding beauty of the Cilgerran river in the glorious sunshine. There was much excitement as everyone collected their buoyancy aids and paddles. We were then led through the forest and to the stunning tranquil river which runs gently through the Cilgerran Gorge. Well it was tranquil until 20 Carew Youth Club members arrived! The club is extremely grateful to Kay and Richard Scourfield (Barlett Engineering) who sponsored this activity. For a small club like Carew it is a costly activity; however, worth every penny to give these youngsters the opportunity to experience canoeing - especially in a river environment. Once again, the experienced instructors Gary, Kevin and Scott were brilliant. The club looks forward to having their final session in September back on Carew Mill Pond. Just one request to Holly's Mum and Dad, can you glue her shoes onto her feet as once again she went into the river, up she came and away floated her shoe - luckily Gary was on stand by to rescue it! The club is hoping to be able to do more canoe activities next year for the younger ones, who were not able to take part this time. Thanks once again to all the parents and local community who continue to support the club, without whom there would be no club. But the real hidden gem is the Carew Youth Club members who are incredibly well behaved and polite - a pleasure to take anywhere. Thanks once again to Mr. John Brock MBE, who is the captain of our ship!
