The potential for a Youth Club in Kilgetty is being considered by local councillors.

In a recent report to Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council, the ward’s County Councillor Alistair Cameron said that he’d recently met with Pembrokeshire County Council youth services staff in order to consider whether any activities for young people could be provided in Kilgetty.

“The county council has no extra resources to pay for youth workers although it should be able to provide back up support - e.g. DBS clearance for youth workers,” said Cllr Cameron.

“A youth club has been set up in Saundersfoot run by volunteers, but if we wish for a youth club to be set up in Kilgetty we need a venue.

The annual staffing costs of a youth worker for one night a week are approximately £3,500.

“In order to be a success, the desire for a youth club needs to come from young people.”

The matter will be discussed further at the next anti-social behaviour teams meeting with the local neighbourhood policing team and other relevant bodies on Wednesday, January 24 at 1.30 pm.
