Ten people from each of Tenby’s wards need to contact the Local Authority if an election is to be called to fill vacancies on the seaside town’s council.

At this month’s meeting (February 8) - five members of Tenby Town Council handed in their resignations, leaving three casual vacancies in the town’s south ward, and two for the north ward.

Those standing down were stalwart councillors Sue Lane and Tish Rossiter (who had served on the town council for over 60 years between them), as well as Tony Brown, Lynn Attewell, and Matthew Ronowitz.

Following the surprise resignations, the town clerk Andrew Davies said that if there was no election called for, to fill the vacancies, the Town Council would go down the route of co-opting new members.

Cllr Laurence Blackhall told his fellow remaining members that he hoped there would be an election.

The first step though, is that any ten local government electors (at least 10 people from each ward) are required to write to Pembrokeshire County Council’s election services to call for an election; and if this hasn’t happened within 14 days from February 9, there will be no election and the Town Council will be able to co-opt people on to the council.

Tenby Town Council meets once a month, usually the first Tuesday of each month.

To make a written request to PCC for an election, you can write to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Services at Pembrokeshire County Council, Unit 23, Thornton Business Park,Thornton Industrial Estate, Milford Haven, SA73 2RR
