Saundersfoot Sports AFC held their annual presentation evening recently at the Fountain Head Inn, Pentlepoir. With the customary three-course dinner being served, Mr. Barry Phillips (Feb) entertained the guests as toastmaster for the evening and thanked the chairman, Mr. John Watkins, and secretary, Mrs. Diane Watkins, for the work they undertook within the club.

The chairman thanked the Junior Section coaches, Steve and Neville Ruff who ran the Under 10s, Ian Hardy and Ken Barnes (U12s), Chris Jenkins (U13s) and Nigel Jenkins and Barry Phillips (U14s), for the guidance they gave to children and for developing a future for the club, providing players throughout the ranks which was going from strength to strength.

The U12s had earlier that day competed in the Tenby Spring Seven Tournament and had played in the semi-final, which as a wonderful achievement.

The Senior Section were thanked, in particular Phil Jones first team manager, who had taken the Seniors out of the Second Division last season and into the First Division where they had successfully held their place, gaining valuable experience in readiness for next season. Phil had also taken the team to the quarter-finals of the West Wales Cup (over 100 teams being entered), Saundersfoot being only one of two clubs in the Pembrokeshire League to get this far, the other being Hakin.

This was a compliment to Phil and to the calibre of players within the club. He was delighted that so many young players had come into the Seniors from the U16 squad, these boys being together since U10s and were now filtering into the first team.

A big thank you went to Mo Kershaw for his involvement with the reserve team and to Steve Badham, manager, for doing a solid job this season.
