Two Pembrokeshire youngsters have set out on new environmental careers paths, thanks to a local training initiative. Josh James from Pembroke Dock and Shawn Boyle from Monkton have been taken on by local community interest company Arcswood after attending courses with Futureworks - part of Pembrokeshire County Council's regeneration service. Josh initially started with Futureworks with the aim of becoming an engineer. However, the 19-year-old, who attended Pembroke School, realised how competitive the sector was and switched over to horticulture. Following completion of his level 1 horticulture qualification he applied for a Jobs Growth Wales position and was taken on for six months with local training provider Arcswood. Meanwhile, Shawn embarked on the Futureworks Traineeship Engagement programme, which enables trainees to sample different employment routes before progressing on to a level 1 horticultural qualification. The 18-year-old, who attended Pembroke School, has also been taken on by Arcswood for a six-month Jobs Growth Wales position. Clr. David Pugh, cabinet member for economy, said he was delighted at their success. "This is a great example of partnership working between local organisations to support employment and training opportunities in Pembrokeshire," he said. "I wish both Josh and Shawn all the best."
