The results from Tenby and District Angling Club's matches during May were as follows: May 11, South Beach: A good surf and not a little weed greeted the 10 anglers for the first match on the South this year. In the main, fishing was tough, but young member Gareth Boyle showed the rest of how to do it by landing a superb bass of 3.123 kg (just on 7lb in 'old money'). The remaining 'old gits' managed a few miserable LSD and one flounder. Well done Gareth! Results: 1. Gareth (Cheeky Chops) Boyle, bass 3.123 kg; 2. Idris Williams, bag 1.996 kg; 3. Garfield Thomas, LSD 0.763 kg. Thanks to Garfield for returning the LSD alive. May 13, Pendine: Fourteen anglers continued the 'Fish Fest' weekend in optimistic mood after Gareth's bass two days before. The surf conditions were good, but one eye on the forecast and fishing four hours up meant anglers elected to stay in front of the slip on this occasion. The forecast was spot on and they were treated to torrential rain for a large part of the match. Very surprisingly, no bass in size were recorded, but three out of four juniors (including a new recruit from the Thomas stable, Shaun Boyle) weighed in. Results were: 1. John (Flounder Meister) Nicholas, flounder 0.705 kg; 2. Mike Williams, bag 1.281 kg; 3. Gareth Boyle, flounder 0.601 kg. In addition to Gareth's fish noted above, Ella Williams and Ben Hughes also weighed in as younger members and won junior vouchers! May 20, dinghy match: The second scheduled dinghy match of the year began with a reasonable forecast, but only one boat sallied forth, 'Trigger'. Mackerel were hard to come by, even though recent reports suggested that they had arrived during April. Barry Taylor and Nev Andrews tried hard all day, but were plagued with LSD of locust proportions. At the end of the day, five species were recorded, but the disappointing day was brightened up by an excellent huss for Barry of 5.86 kg, which he backed up with a second 'double' early in the flood tide. Barry won the Boyne Boat cup and Trigger recorded 35 points. May 25, Freshwater East: Eight anglers turned up for the first summer Freshwater East bash with hopes of an early ray. However, just LSD were recorded, although every angler booked in also weighed in. Results were: 1. Karl (That shut the boy up!) Boyle, LSD 0.770 kg; 2. Garfield (Bus Pass) Thomas, bag 2.750 kg; 3. Don Price, LSD 0.735 kg All anglers will, no doubt, be pleased to see Don back with them after his recent indisposition. Further information at any time, phone Nev Andrews on 01834 814072.
