Rotarian Barbara Rumbold recently managed to obtain the services of top quality chef Karl Hughes from the Plas Hyfryd to judge the Young Chef Competition at Dyffryn Taf School on November 15.

The winner Toni Harries cooked ‘Egg and Mango Chutney Flatbreads’ with Chilli for added flavour, chicken stuffed with pesto and served on a bed of buttered green beans and vine tomatoes.

This was followed by a cherry chocolate mouse and homemade shortbread

Toni will now progress and represent Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club in the next round of the competition at Pembrokeshire College on February 6.

Toni is pictured with the Head Chef of the Plas Hyfryd Hotel.

He judged the food and was pleased to offer our Young Chef advice and an offer to cook with him for an afternoon at the Narberth Hotel to gain more experience before going to the next round of this National competition.

Young Chef is just one of many competitions available through Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club.

In the current programme the first stage of the Rotary Young Musician Competition take place on January 16, 2019.

This is open to senior school pupils in the area to demonstrate their talents in vocal and instrumental categories.

This event will be followed by writing and photography competitions in February.

For more information about all the competitions can be found on the Rotary District 1150 Youth Competitions web site.

Barbara Rumbold thanked the Chef and the competitors for taking part in this annual event.
