Over 100 charities and local community groups in Wales have benefited from a £53,000 charity grant from Sainsbury's, with each receiving £500. Among them are Young Carers Pembrokeshire who applied for a donation from the Welsh Community Grant Fund earlier in the year. Spokesman for Young Carers, Charlotte Phillips, said: "We're delighted to receive this donation from Sainsbury's; we'll be spending the donation on extra treats and days out through the summer holidays and its fantastic that charities and community groups across Wales have benefited from this grant." The grant is a result of Sainsbury's reinvesting the single use carrier bag charge which is applied to online customers at a flat rate of 40p. Between January and March, Sainsbury's stores across Wales encouraged customers and colleagues to apply for a share of the funding, and as a result over 900 nominations were put forward, with 114 groups awarded a share of the grant. Michelle Davies, store manager, added: "The Young Carers is fully deserving of this fund and we're proud to support a cause which touches the hearts of many of our customers."
