Under 8s

Whitland Under 8s travelled to Aberaeron for the annual District H tag tournament in which 20 teams entered.

Whitland went through to the quarter-finals after topping their group with four wins from four.

They then went on to play Aberystwyth and, to their credit, put on their best performance of the day with an excellent win that put them in the semi-finals against Aberaeron.

This was a tight game, with the scores locked at one try each right up to the last minute, but then an Aberaeron player broke from close to his own line and ran the length of the field to score the winning try and see the final whistle go almost immediately afterwards.

 Under 7s

This was the first year for a Pembrokeshire Under 7s tournament to be held and the young Whitland boys will remember it for a long time.

Having been drawn in a very strong group, Whitland knew only their best would do if they were to go on in the tournament, and what a performance they put in, winning all but one of their group games which meant they went on to be runners-up in the group.

They then went on to play the winners of group two - Neyland.

Whitland beat them by  three tries to two and earned themselves a place in the final against Crymych, the only team to have beaten them to date, in the group stages by one late try to nil.

With over half the game gone, the scores were nil-nil, with excellent defence from both teams keeping each other out, but then it was Crymych who broke the deadlock, before going on to score two further tries, to see the brave Whitland boys go down three tries to nil.

 Under 9s

Whitland Under 9s travelled to Pontyberem last Sunday. This was the first time that both teams had met, and on such a glorious morning.

Pontyberem got in an early try, running straight through the Whitland team.

Whitland then pulled their socks up by scoring four tries through Sebastian, Lewis and two by Aled.

Whitland again dominated the second half, with some excellent team play from all the boys. Rhodri had a hat-trick in the second half, with other tries from Sebastian, Lloyd and James.

Scarlets Train

with Under 10s

On Friday evening, Nigel Short, coach of the Whitland Under 10s, invited John Muggleton (forwards coach), Garan Evans, Jonathan Davies and Deacon Manu, of the Scarlets, to come to Whitland and join the Under 10s for a training session.

The boys were a little nervous to start, but soon warmed up to the intense Scarlets style coaching.

They all had a wonderful time, learned some excellent new skills, thanked the Scarlets with a big cheer and then presented their guests with a bottle of special edition Penderyn Single Malt Whisky.
