Loughor 8 pts.

Narberth Athletic 31

After last week's disappointing performance at a wet and windy Dunvant, the Athletic produced their best result of the season to date.

This must be one of the youngest Narberth Athletic team ever. With no fewer than nine teenagers involved and, with the exception of the conversions, all the points came from this very talented bunch of young players.

It was very much an in-form number eight Richard Sharpe-Williams who open the scoring after 11 minutes.

After a number of phases, the ball was moved right and a good angle from Sharpe saw him score under the posts, with number 10 Andrew Davies adding the extras.

A good take from the kick-off by hooker Gareth Flynn who then fed Sharpe who set off on another one of his trademark runs.

However, several missed opportunities let Loughor back into the game and the home team scored an unconverted try through flanker Rhys Corcoran with a couple of minutes left in the first half.

From the kick-off, John Tennick won the ball and after the ball was moved wide twice, Athletic fullback Rhys Davies just about got the ball down to score the first of his brace of tries for the afternoon making the half-time score 12-5.

Gareth Bevan's form this season has greatly improved and with Flynn at hooker, joined in the front row by debutant Tony Parsley, the Athletic front row must be one of the youngest in the league.

Second row Luke Kendall continues to improve with every game and playing along side Tennick can only get better.

Another player making his debut was scrum-half Johnny Morgan and his pace was a constant threat all afternoon.

After good work on the blind from fullback Davies, prop Bevan went over in the corner but the only person would did not see him ground the ball was the referee!

However, within two minutes flying young winger Tom Richards scored after a clever kick and chase which went unconverted.

Morgan attacked the blind and again Davies played a major part in the movement before Morgan was held back after a neat little kick which left the referee with only one decision, a penalty try for Davies to extend the lead.

Scrum-half Lewis Saunders kicked a penalty for Loughor before Narberth fullback 'Chainsaw' Davies had the last word of the game.

After picking up a loose ball 40-metres out, Davies out paced a very tired home defence to score near the posts.

Although somewhat surprisingly, Andrew Davies missed the conversion.

The final score was a healthy 31-8 winning margin.

Richard Sharpe-Williams was selected as man-of-the-match by the Narberth team management.

This was a good performance from a very young side and the coaches have a number of very talented group of players to work with over the next few months.

Tomorrow (Saturday, October 18), Narberth Athletic are home to Whitland Wanderers.
