Different generations have gained an insight into dementia, thanks to the Virtual Dementia tour bus which recently visited Haverfordwest.
Young people from the POINT Youth Service in Fishguard and the Pembrokeshire Youth Assembly along with members of the Pembrokeshire 50+ Central Forum choose to become more aware of ‘What is Dementia?’ and ‘How can it affect people?’
Rachel Gibby, older person’s strategy coordinator, said the different generations on the training had varied experiences. “For the older generation it brought home how vulnerable we all can be at a moment’s notice,” she said.
Meanwhile, Esther Thornton, aged 14 from Goodwick, said she felt like she had a greater understanding of dementia and those who live with it and their carers.
“It was a really memorable day, and I think the things I learnt are incredibly important and valuable, especially considering the area in which I live has an older population generally,” she said. “I’m very happy to be a dementia friend.”
