Sir,
Tenby people can be proud of their pioneering De Valance venue. The inventive management have just scored another triumph with their very unusual Rockers Revival weekend. Having attended just two of the events, I can vouch for the excellence of this fabulous '50s festival. As a step into the unknown, it was a brave venture. But it came off beautifully. The '50s quiz on Friday, though free to the public, was well thought-out, professionally presented and extremely entertaining. The audience reacted enthusiastically with the witty and knowledgeable quiz master and each other, and an elegant and artistic trophy was keenly fought over. The '50s rock 'n' roll show and dance the night afterwards was even better. The De Valance team went to huge lengths to deck the setting in a vintage dance hall way. There was an authentic '50s atmosphere, with pastel lighting and luxurious table decorations. Even the seats had been swagged and garlanded for the occasion. The atmosphere was an ideal setting for two excellent vintage bands - they were called beat groups, of course, in the fun-filled '50s. And I've rarely seen dancers of all ages movin' and a'groovin' so much to music now half-a-century old. I'm told there'll be another Rockers Revival next year - and we all look forward to it. Malcolm Stacey, Tenby.
