Over 500 YFC members travelled to the Royal Welsh Showground on Saturday to take part in the Wales YFC Public Speaking Day, kindly sponsored by NFU Cymru.

Members from all over Wales attended the day to take part in the Wales YFC Welsh and English public speaking competitions, and as ever, the competition was close in each section. Following a full day of competing, the Ceredigion Federation were overall winners of the Welsh section and the Pembrokeshire Federation were the overall winners of the English section.

NFU Cymru president, Stephen James, said: “NFU Cymru is proud to offer its support to the Federation of Young Farmers Clubs in Wales. At NFU Cymru we are totally committed to safeguarding the future of our rural areas here in Wales and to do so it is vital that we invest in the next generation through the YFC. It was a delight to see the high quality of talent we have amongst the clubs across the country during the public speaking event last weekend.”

Laura Elliott, Wales YFC’s competitions chairman, said: “After weeks of intense practice, it’s a joy to see all the hard work of the members finally paying off. We have had the pleasure of witnessing outstanding performances from all members, and all counties should be very proud of their members. Public speaking competitions give members invaluable opportunities to gain confidence when speaking in public, something that will benefit them greatly later in life. Congratulations to all involved.”
