Young persons under 25 years of age who have received their secondary education in the County of Pembroke maybe interested in knowing that the Wynford Davies Travelling Scholarship will once again be open to candidates during the year 2003.
The Scholarship, to the value of £500, honours the memory of a distinguished Director of Education for Pembrokeshire (1957-74), and has been awarded annually since 1989.
It was considered that the Scholarship would be a fitting memorial for Mr. Wynford Davies, and would reflect his deeply held belief that education was for life and that it was enriched by personal experience of countries and cultures other than that into which we are born.
Since its inception each school in the County has had a former pupil who has been awarded the Scholarship - all of whom have been wonderful ambassadors for Pembrokeshire.
Last year the recipient was Bethan Fflur John, Ysgol-y-Preseli, who travelled to Patagonia to undertake a Medical Elective period.
Applicants wishing to be considered should submit a letter setting-out comprehensively his/her educational background and the reasons/purpose for requiring the Scholarship.
Closing date is March 15, 2003, and short-listed candidates interviewed during the Easter vacation.
Applications should be directed to, and further information obtained from: Mr. T. A. L. Davies, Clerk to the Trustees, 3, Picton Close, Crundale, Haverfordwest, SA62 4EP (telephone 01437 764953).
