More young people are becoming interested in sport in South Pembrokeshire, thanks to Sport Pembrokeshire officer Wyndham Williams.
Wyndham, the 5x60 school sport co-ordinator for Pembroke and Greenhill Schools, has been nominated officer of the month for his success in encouraging more sport participation.
"He is making a big impact in Pembrokeshire, having installed a climbing wall in Pembroke School and formed various clubs, leagues and events to get more young people active," said Elaine Perry, Sports Council for Wales' officer, who nominated him.
Pupils at Pembroke School and Greenhill School can now take part in street dance, tennis, trampolining, badminton, boccia, bodycombat, self-defence, basketball, dodgeball, indoor rock climbing, surfing, and climbing - to name but a few.
Wyndham, who plays for Tenby Rugby Club, explained: "There are a great variety of different sports activities available to schoolchildren now - it's moved on a great deal from the days where you could only play rugby or football, hockey or netball.
"The children have reacted well to a variety of activities available to them and enjoy the experience, which is the most important of all."
Elaine Perry added: "Wyndham showed great initiative to bring together a range of organisations to raise money for, build and repair a climbing wall at the school. This encouraged climbing as a 5x60 activity. This led to the setting up of a climbing club - linked to the community - and run by them."
Sport Pembrokeshire is Pembrokeshire County Council's sports development service. The 5x60 project is funded and run by a partnership between Sport Pembrokeshire, local sports clubs and the Sports Council for Wales. It aims to encourage secondary pupils to achieve 60 minutes of physical activity five times a week.
