THE end of an era was marked recently when WRVS volunteers attended a presentation at South Pembrokeshire Hospital in Pembroke Dock. Accompanied by WRVS area organiser, Mary Lovatt, they presented Pembrokeshire and Derwen Trust chairman, Lynette George, and acting chief executive, Mary Hodgeon, with a cheque for almost £3,500. The WRVS volunteers had all manned the tea bar at the hospital, their service totalling 215 years, with two members having given 30 years service each. Unfortunately, a lack of members has forced the closure of the tea bar, but it is hoped that a turn around will enable it to become up and running again when the new Resource Centre opens on the site in 2007. In accepting the generous donation, both Lynette George and Mary Hodgeon thanked the ladies for their many years of service and their contribution to the support offered to patients, visitors and staff. The money will be used to purchase electronic chairs for the ward areas of the new Centre and also to purchase benches for the rehabilitation garden that will form an integral part of the new development.
