FollowinG the success of last year's Writers' Day, Cleddau Community Arts are holding a two-day event at the end of this month.

The workshops will be held on Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, at the Further Education Centre, Dew Street, Haverfordwest.

Friday will be opened by Pembrokeshire author Josephine Hammond, whose debut book focuses on the life of her grandfather, a British engineer caught up in the horrifying events of the First World War on the Mesopotamian Front. Jo is now working on a new biography of legendary opera star Adelina Patti.

Workshops will be led by Dr. Brian John, author of over 70 books, including the historical-fiction series Angel Mountain Saga, and poet Peter George, a Hawthornden Fellow.

Dr. John's writing experience covers everything from novels to university texts, walking guides, handbooks, books of popular science, books of local jokes, and local folklore and traditions. He has also been involved in small-scale publishing.

Those joining Peter George's workshop are asked to bring along examples of their work or those of favourite poets. There will be readings, discussions, valuable guidance and advice. Peter will also talk about his stay at the Writers' Retreat, Hawthorden Castle, Scotland

Saturday will be opened by BBC Wales presenter and author Jamie Owen, who will give readings and will be happy to hold a short question and answer session.

Workshops will be held by author Robert Nisbet and playwright David Ainsworth.

Robert Nisbet has had 100 short stories published and has also turned to poetry. He teaches creative writing for several organisations, including Trinity University College, Carmarthen, and will do a presentation on 'The Making of a Short Story' and a workshop on opening paragraphs in the afternoon.

Those who want to branch into writing for the theatre will be interested in David Ainsworth's workshop where he will talk about the work he's done and then set a task about using an object to create a monologue for the stage.
