Sir,
May we through your newspaper bring to the attention of your readers the following information. The Tenby Talking Newspaper (an audio format of the Tenby Observer) produced with the permission of the Editor, is recorded each Friday and sent out to approximately 50 visually impaired recipients throughout Pembrokeshire and further afield.
Five teams of readers and copiers meet on a Friday morning, and edit, record and copy the news, and the cassettes are then posted free of charge to registered blind people. The five team leaders are Philippa Giles, Newman Vincent, Bob Storey, Jean Frobel and Howard Griffiths, the hard working administrator being Jean Roberts.
If you know of anyone who would like to receive the Tenby Talking Newspaper, please get in touch with any of the team leaders or the chairperson, Eva Rich, on 01834 812868.
It is envisaged that before too long the system of recording will have to change from the cassette to a CD, and the committee members are wondering if there is anyone in the locality or someone who has moved from the area and who now finds reading difficult not only due to a sight problem, but possibly another form of disability, and would like to receive the audio version of the Tenby Observer, please get in touch.
As postage is only free to registered blind people, there may be a small charge to help with postal costs. Changing from the cassette to a digital format is going to cost the group a considerable amount of money, but it is hoped that the expenses will be covered by help from various organisations.
The visually impaired recipients are always full of praise for the talking newspaper and are generally complimentary about the way it is produced, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you know someone who would benefit from receiving this service.
Eva Rich,
Chairperson.
