Local live arts charity Span Arts are delighted that world beatbox phenomenon Bellatrix and her talented fellow female vocalists Yvette, Alyusha, Neo and Kate, aka. The Boxettes, will be performing at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, on Friday, February 24, to open the Narberth Acapella Singing Festival.

Five young women with more passion and inspiration than seems safe, The Boxettes are an all-female vocal group featuring the female world beatbox champion Bellatrix, and four of London's finest new vocalists. Crushing the girl-band stereotype, these extraordinary young women create a sound and energy so empowering that their every audience is left mesmerised and inspired.

Steeped in the influence of many genres, the Boxettes' music can loosely be described as a quirky kind of pop. Whilst they undoubtedly have a distinct contemporary UK urban edge, they wear their many influences proudly and utilise elements of soul, trip-hop, drum'n' bass, jazz, hip-hop, electronica, world music and many more.

Pushing the boundaries of what one might consider possible from the human voice, the heavy use of extended vocal techniques is inherent in the Boxettes' sound. Heavy beats, crushing bass-lines and vocal FX in amongst a versatile layer of feminine voices. With a choice of five equally astounding yet individual lead voices and original music with the rare ability to move many souls, acapella just doesn't quite conjure up the new sound that the Boxettes have created.

In the words of Joss Stone: "These girls are so talented... so original with their sound, and great live."

During the last year, the Boxettes, who trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, have built a fierce live reputation and have played some of the UK's finest venues and festivals, including Womad, Ministry of Sound and Glastonbury and The London A'Cappella Festival.

They arrive in to Narberth fresh from their appearance at HMV's The Next Big Thing Festival.

They are currently up for not just one, but two CASA awards nominations, one for best pop album and one for composing best original pop song for 'free' which became a viral success as a result of which they have been busy touring the UK, Europe, India and the USA so don't miss out seeing them while you can!

Doors open 7.30 pm. Tickets £12/£10 members and concessions/£8 under 21s.
