TENBY'S town crier, John Thomas, will be joining criers from around the globe next week when he takes part in the 10th World Championships in Newquay, Cornwall.

Just hours after his wife, Caroline, is installed as the town's new Mayor tonight (Friday), John, of Clarice Toys, Upper Frog Street, will be setting off for the event, which sees a strong field of 124 competitors competing for the top honours.

As well as taking part in the opening parade and three heats, where John, who has taken part in the majority of world championships over the years, will be crying on his home town, Cornwall and a subject of his won choice, he will also be visiting the Eden Project and Land's End.

The final takes place next Friday with the awards and presentation ceremony on the Saturday.
