Martletwy County Councillor Di Clements has met recently with Ben Blake and Anthony Price from Pembrokeshire County Council highways department at the Cross Hands Junction to highlight safety issues. They were also joined by Martletwy Community Council chairman, Philip Eynon, and local resident, Janet Mear.
Local residents have long been aware of the dangers at the junction at Canaston Bowl and the many regular accidents and incidents that have occurred there.
During the council election campaign, Clr. Di Clements explained that it was one of the most common concerns raised by locals. As a local resident herself, Clr Di described how she has seen many near misses and is aware of the many accidents that have occurred.
“It is a dangerous junction which carries many tourists throughout the summer season, some of whom may not be aware of the junction layout,” she said. “Those that also know the junction can take unnecessary risks.
“I am grateful to PCC in coming out on a site visit to see and hear what local residents think.”
A number of safety measures were discussed and all those present were pleased to hear that PCC have received grant funding from the Welsh Government Road Safety Capital Grant specifically for the project. This will be used to implement road safety improvements at the junction with additional signage.
PCC will also be funding works for improved signage and road markings on the approaches to the various bends on the A4075.
The works are anticipated to start in the next few months and PCC have advised that works will be completed by spring 2018 at the latest.
