Work to introduce traffic calming measures in Pentlepoir and improvements for pedestrians are set to commence next week.

Two mini-roundabouts will be installed on the A478, which will replace the existing Templebar Road and Station Road T-junctions. The scheme will also feature new pedestrian crossings near Pentle Drive, and closer to the old pump.

In addition, the bus stop near the Templebar Road junction will be replaced, and an additional bus shelter installed on the opposite side of the road, near Pentle Drive; whilst both the road and pavement will be widened between Templebar Road and Pentle Drive, and a new stretch of pavement added along part of the western side of Station Road.

“I’m delighted to say that the area’s long-awaited traffic calming scheme is due to start,” said county councillor for East Williamston Jacob Willliams.

“Since this work is taking place on the A478 – the busy main road to Tenby – it’ll be a change for more than just local residents.

“As county councillor I’ve been chasing this scheme for years – and to be fair to the council and its highways department, it has been on the table for a long time, too – but failed to qualify for various funding pots higher up the bureaucratic food chain.

I’m confident that it will help residents cross this busy road, improve traffic flow at the two junctions – which can suffer very long tailbacks – and all of this whilst deterring speeding.

The works are due to begin on Monday, September 21, and are expected to last for eight weeks.
