A flag-raising ceremony has marked the start of work on Pembrokeshire's new £1bn gas-fired power station.

The project, which is creating 2,000 building jobs and up to 100 permanent posts at the site, is being built on the site of the old Pembroke power station.

The RWE npower plant will generate enough energy for three million homes.

Pictured at last Friday's ceremony are, from the left: Nick Ainger, MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Kevin Akhurst, managing director of generation, RWE npower, and John Allen-Mirehouse, deputy leader of Pembrokeshire County Council.
