Members of Tenby and District Soroptimists have been busy with their knitting needles producing Balaclavas for the Mission to Seafarers.

They took their handiwork to County Hall in Haverfordwest recently to show one of their fellow Soroptimists, the chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes, who is a former president and secretary of the club.

Explained Soroptimists president, Mrs. Jean Thomas: "Part of the collection from Clr. Hayes' Civic Service last year went to the Mission, so we thought it would be nice to support the same cause.

"Around a dozen of our members are enthusiastic knitters and they have put their skills to good use."

Around 20 Balaclavas in variety of colours are expected to be handed over to the Mission to Seafarers which caters for the physical and spiritual needs of merchantmen of all nationalities.

Its Chaplain in Pembrokeshire, Rev. Michael Williams, of Burton, said the Mission was most appreciative of the efforts of the Soroptimists.
