The topic of tree maintenance in Penally has been addressed by the ward’s county councillor, in his report to the village’s Community Council this month.

“Councillors will no doubt be aware that there has been active tree management taking place in several area’s in and around Penally recently. Most of this work has been carried out on private land but has raised the question of restrictions within the conservation area,” explained Clr. Jon Preston.

“Following a meeting with the Landscape Office on Pembrokeshire County Council’s Conservation Team, it has been confirmed that there are currently no Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s) in the areas in question.

“I can also confirm that although some of the work has been carried out near to the conservation area, it is in fact outside of the defined boundary. The Landscape Officer has also informed me that there is a TPO on the woodland belonging to Penally Abbey Hotel.

“A Woodland management plan for this area has been agreed and work is due to start soon if not already with, I understand, the timber being taken-out via Retreat Road,” he added.
