The sounds of Donizetti's operas brought Tudor Merchant's House to life last Thursday as enthusiastic audiences were transported back in time. In a unique collaboration between Welsh National Opera and the National Trust, extracts from Donizetti's operas 'Maria Stuarda' and 'Anna Bolena' were performed by mezzo-soprano Caryl Hughes and soprano Lynn Bordereau, accompanied by lutenist Jamie Akers.

WNO director and host Sophie Rashbrook introduced the audience to the history behind the music and gave fascinating insights into the characters of Mary Queen of Scots, Jane Seymour and Ann Boleyn. The performances were directed by Polly Graham.

"WNO created a fantastic atmosphere in a very informal setting," commented Angela Jones, house manager. "It was wonderful to see the audience using our specially made replica furniture and enjoying being taken back to Tudor times."

Tudor Merchant's House is open every day except Tuesday next week and every day of the October half-term week from 11 am to 5 pm. Last entry is 4.30 pm. Half-term activities will include quizzes and pomander making.
