A 60-year-old woman tragically died in a two-vehicle accident on the A40 on Saturday.

A front seat passenger in one of the vehicles, Margaret Ann Griffiths, of Perthiaur, Penboir, Velindre, Llandyssul, sustained fatal injuries in the accident which occurred at Pengawse Hill, Whitland, at approximately 5 pm.

Other occupants of the vehicles were conveyed to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, and Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, where they were treated for various injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where his condition is described as 'critical, but stable'.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and officers are keen to trace the driver of a blue Peugeot 306 that may have been travelling along this road towards the direction of Haverfordwest.

"We are keen to stress that there is no suggestion that this vehicle was in any way a contributory factor to the collision, however they may be a witness, and may have vital information that will assist with police inquiries," said a police spokesman.

The driver or occupants in this vehicle or any other witnesses are asked to contact PC 659 Huw Evans at Pembrokeshire Roads Policing on (01437) 763355.
