At a recent meeting in County Hall, with regard to the county council's strategy on severe winter weather, as has been experienced in the last two winters, priority has been given to major roads in the county and main emergency centres such as access to hospitals.
Clr. Wynne Evans, of Narberth, has had assurances that there are now ample supplies of rocksalt available to cope with severe road conditions.
He said: "I am pleased to say that I have now set-up a local group within the town with several volunteers to assist residents with any difficulties they might encounter.
"A manned 'phone line will be advertised; this service is for NHS staff and carers, meals on wheels volunteers who need help to get to clients or their place of work. It is hoped this service will be used for those who have genuine difficulties and not just general help; also senior citizens who may be in need of help with no one else to call upon.
"I am grateful for offers of rocksalt from generous local suppliers and those volunteers who have four-wheel drive vehicles.
"We will be promoting this service at the forthcoming winter carnival and I look forward to recruiting more volunteers that evening, added Clr. Evans."
