Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort - one of Pembrokeshire's top visitor attractions - is getting set for a winter 'invasion'. For the first time, the unique and award-winning fort, owned and run by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, will remain open over the winter months. In previous years, Castell Henllys has closed at the end of October, except for school parties and group bookings. This year, it will only close over the Christmas period - from December 20 to January 8. "We are staying open for the winter, Monday to Friday, at a reduced level of entry from 11 am to 3 pm," said site supervisor Rhonwen Owen. "Our shop will open too, from 2 to 4 pm. "The decision to stay open was taken to support accommodation providers, adding value and enhancement for their guests on their visit to Pembrokeshire. October half-term proved to be very popular and successful and we were delighted how many people visited the site during the week. We were very lucky to be joined by storyteller Robin Williamson, a former member of the group 'The Incredible String Band' who captivated visitors with his stories of Iron Age life." • Castell Henllys, signposted off the A487 between Newport and Cardigan, attracts well over 30,000 visitors annually.
