Wednesday, March 9, a wild and windy morning with blustery showers, saw the stalwarts of Lawrenny, Cresselly and the surrounding area gathering for a spring coffee morning (writes Jean Jaques). Although, apart from the spring flowers in full bloom and doing their best to stay upright, it would be difficult to assume it actually was spring.

Once blown through the door, people were welcomed with the cheeful sight of tables set with plates of hot cross buns, prettily arranged vases of daffodils and a good supply of hot drinks.

The stall looked most attractive with a good selection of cakes, Easter eggs and boxes of chocolates and all sorts of gifts to suit every occasion.

The raffle was well supported, people being ‘persuaded’ by Maurice Cole to get their tickets so as not to be disappointed at the end when the raffle prizes were won.

As always there was a lovely convivial atmosphere, enjoyed by all and raising money too for the Carew and Cresswell local branch of Cancer Research, who held this event.

When the raffle was called, the winners claimed their prizes. A cheese and wine basket, Frank Harbud; a spring clean basket, Dr. Paul; an Easter egg and a bottle of ‘Sea Breeze’ went to Netty Williams; a Dairy Milk egg went to Sam Mason; Danish biscuits went to Pearl Thomas and to Marina and Jack James; a bath set, Gareth Williams; a lotion set, Carol Chandler, and Paula Ralph; and finally a jewellery box was won by Marjorie Davies.

A donation of £250 from Sam Badhams, the granddaughter of the late and much loved and treasured Sue Jenkins who was a member of the local committee, achieved from a sponsored run, boosted the morning’s total to £728.63, which was duly banked by the treasurer.

Thanks to all who braved the elements that morning for your generosity and to all those who worked to make it such a success.
