Saundersfoot

The first meeting in 2009 was held in the Regency Hall Sun Lounge, on Tuesday, January 20. The president, Mrs. Jean Picton, welcomed 19 members and wished them a happy New Year.

She said it was also her sad duty to announce the death of one of their most loyal members, Dr. Olga Ryland, on Sunday, January 18, in Park House Court Nursing Home, and a few seconds silence was held for her.

The minutes of the December 2008 were read and signed.

Jean them gave a short report on the Mini Consultative meeting which she and Gwen had attended to hear and discuss the suggested resolutions, which were well supported by the speakers.

Speaker, Mr. Fraser then gave a most interesting talk on the 'Titanic', from its beginning to the fatal iceberg sinking on her maiden voyage. This was well illustrated by photographs and a newspaper cutting. Audrey gave the vote of thanks.

Birthday buttonholes were handed to Peggy Morris and Sheila, and Gwen won the raffle prize.

There is an exciting programme for the coming year, and the institute would welcome new members. They meet on the third Tuesday each month, and their next meeting is on February 17 in the Sun Lounge, Regency Hall. They are also holding their St. David's Day coffee morning on Friday, February 27, in the Sports Club.

Kilgetty

The president, Doreen Campbell, opened the January meeting and wished everyone a very happy New Year.

Apologies were received from Val Jenkins, Audrey Hilling, Vivian Tait, Doreen Phillips and Kath Breen and condolences were expressed to Kath Breen on the death of her aunt. Peggy was thanked for the lovely snowdrops on the top table. Congratulations to Eileen Phillips who had won the competition shield for 2008.

The minutes of the December meeting were read and items from the County Newsletter discussed. Names were taken for the quiz night on February 19 and two members were interested in attending the AGM in the Albert Hall in June.

Four members had attended the mini-consultative meeting in Haverfordwest. They gave a brief resumé of what the speakers had said and a discussion followed.

There will be a Pancake Morning in the WI Hall on Tuesday, February 24, from 10.30 to 12 noon - cost of admission £2.

Unfortunately, the speaker for the evening was unable to attend because of illness and following tea, and slices of Beryl Marsh's birthday cake, the members spent some social time together.

The competition for a souvenir from America was won by Eileen Phillips; Eileen also won the raffle.

The speaker in February is Mrs. Patricia Campion on her visit to Tajikistan and the competition is for the prettiest scarf.

New members are always warmly welcomed.

Carew

The president welcomed the hardy members who turned up on a very cold night and wished everyone a happy New Year.

Liz Hyde and Paula Ralph would go to the mini-consultative meeting. Members were asked to think about going to the Royal Albert Hall as a delegate this year. The annual dinner will be held on January 31, 7.30 pm, at Wiseman's Bridge Inn.

The speaker was unable to attend, so after a cup of tea, members decided to go home to a warm fireside!

The raffle was won by Elaine Williams, while the competition was won by Bronwen Knox, with Carol Cole second.

The next meeting will be on February 4 and the speaker will be Louise on make-up for the mature lady. The competition will be an ornament of a lady and Carew are on teas.
