Tavernspite
The October meeting of Tavernspite WI took place in Tavernspite Village Hall.
Members were given a talk by Dr. Howard Jones. This covered the importance of a healthy diet.
Dr. Jones spoke about the various vitamins and their sources. He explained the need for a varied diet as different foods are required in order to achieve a balance of the vitamins and minerals needed by our bodies.
He spoke of the importance of not exceeding the recommended dosage of supplements and advised to always seek advice before taking them. Fibre is also an essential part of the diet and should be part of everyday diet. It is needed to keep the waste system functioning and healthy.
Dr. Jones explained how the Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated. He had some previous calculations giving the ideal ranges for persons of a range of heights and so members had an indication of their own BMI.
