Carew will be aiming to finish the cricket season off on a high this Monday when they play Lawrenny in the final of the Duggie Morris Cup. After the weather scuppered their chances of winning the first division title on Saturday with just eight runs needed for victory against Neyland, skipper Rob Scourfield knows this will be the only chance of silverware for another year at least. He has nothing but confidence in his men, but is mindful of the threat that Lawrenny can pose. "I'll back us against anyone on our day," he said. "But Lawrenny will be a tough nut to crack. We've got some experienced players in our team, but they have beaten Cresselly and Haverfordwest to get to the final and have explosive batsmen all the way down to 11. They are well suited to this format of the competition." Scourfield makes an interesting point. The format of the competition changed from being a 40-over final to a two innings contest of 20 overs a couple of seasons ago and this makes it a different proposition for all. "We've beaten Lawrenny home and away in the league this season and if this was the old format of the game then I would say that we were definitely the favourites, but its 20/twenty now and that's different. Lawrenny have some real strength in depth and attack from one to 11. "This will be the first time we have played them in a final and I hope the weather will be ok so we can finish the season off on a high." Scourfield's sentiments are shared by Lawrenny captain Steve Lewis. He, too, is hoping for nice weather so the game can be played to a conclusion and he, too, has nothing but confidence in his men. "We've beaten Harfat and Cresselly to get here. Admittedly neither side was at full strength, but you can only play against what is in front of you. It's a local derby, we know their players well, but we don't fear them, we can match anyone over 20 overs and if we play to our potential, I'm sure we can win. "We're a club that plays for each other; it's always been like that down here and if our supporters get behind us and our batsmen and bowlers perform, then I'm sure we can do it." Both captains are in bullish mood ahead of the final and have nothing but belief in their team. If their players can rise to the challenge before them and perform to their ability on the day, then it will be an enjoyable game. Just don't park your cars too close to the boundary, for no matter how enjoyable it is, it may not be for you. Pen Pictures

CAREW

ROBERT SCOURFIELD (captain - right-hand batsman & bowler). Astute skipper looking for his first piece of silverware. Miserly bowler who is capable of scoring important runs in the middle order. PHIL JONES (vice-captain - right-hand batsman). Hard hitting middle-order batsman, who scores his runs very quickly. Can make bowlers look very small once in full flight. ADAM HUGHES (wicket-keeper and right hand batsman). Adam has been a revelation behind the wickets during his debut season in the 1st team. Following in the footsteps of some great Carew wicket-keepers. IAN SEFTON (right-hand batsman). Has already scored three centuries this season. Scores quickly once in his stride. One of the finest batsmen in the county. ROBERT HICKS (left-hand batsman). Has opened the batting for Wales in years gone by. Classy, hard hitting player who makes it look easy, even when it isn't. JOHN CANTON (right-hand batsman/off spin bowler). A cool, calm and collected influence on the pitch, even when the opposition batsmen try to get after him. Could be Carew's secret weapon on the day. NICK SCOURFIELD (right-hand batsman). Returned to action after a season off through injury and began where he left off, by scoring stacks of runs. Puts a huge price on his wicket and is a model opening bat. WAYNE CANNON (right-hand batsman and bowler). In his first season with the club and has already made an impact as a quality all-rounder. Opens the bowling and can score valuable runs lower down the order. TIM HICKS (left-hand batsman and bowler). A true sporting all-rounder. Opens the bowling and bats in the top four. Scored his first league century this season. BRIAN HALL (left-hand batsman). In excellent form again this year. Makes batting look simple at times. Strikes the ball as well as anyone when in full flow. SIMON WOOD (right-hand batsman and bowler). Genuine all-rounder who could possibly open the batting and bowling on the day. Classy player who is as devastating with the bat as he is with the ball. MARTIN SCOURFIELD (right-hand batsman & bowler). Provides excellent back-up to the 1st team top-order batsmen. Unlucky not to have featured more this season, after impressing in 2005. RHYS DAVIES (right-hand batsman & bowler).   Another product of the 'Davies' cricket dynasty. Rhys is a seam bowler and aggressive batsman, who is certainly one to keep an eye on in future years. BEN COLE (scorer). Ben has excelled in the role of 1st team scorer. The score-book is a credit, due to his hard work and methodical approach.
