Sir,

The works to build a fish pass into the Pembroke barrage have almost been completed. The flushing of the Castle Pond by sea water has improved the water quality, stopped the smell and encouraged a healthy fish population.

Now the gate has been damaged and needs to be raised by a mobile crane to be repaired. When Rocky Park was developed, road access was blocked and the crane had to use a platform to extend its legs. The planning committee were aware of this when they granted planning permission, which blocked the access.

The works so far have cost £250,000. Who will pay to carry out the works to repair the barrage?

Why not demolish the barrage, reinforce the defences at Monkton Bridge, and construct a fish pass to the Mill Pond.

Ian Campbell Rutger,

The Green,

Pembroke.
