Whitland Youth warmed up for their Welsh Cup semi-final with a rearranged league match against Crymych at home last Thursday. They were tested in all aspects of their game, but came through to win by 10 points to nil.
Whitland's scrum was strong and Lewis Owen and Carl Smith in the lineouts not only won their own throw, but took some and spoiled a lot of Crymych's ball.
In the loose, both sides showed great enterprise and a battle took place, with neither coming out on top. Both defences were strong, but Whitland held the edge and overall were good for their win .
In the first half, Whitland scored the only try of the game by flanker James Cubby Davies, which was converted by centre James Stephenson.
It was only late in the second half that the home supporters could relax when James Stephenson kicked a penalty, which finally put the game out of the reach of a gutsy Crymych team.
Whitland know they must raise the bar against Ammanford in the Webb Ellis Welsh Cup.
