Matters discussed at the May meeting of Whitland Town Council included the following:
Whitland Dairies site: Clr. T. R. J. Jenkins reported that he attended a meeting with County Clr. Mrs. S. Allen and Dovey Enterprises. This matter was being very closely monitored and Whitland Town Council hoped to receive further positive information at a later date. There would be a further meeting in this month which Clr. Jenkins would attend on behalf of the town council.
The question was asked if there was any further news regarding the small piece of land at the entrance to the bottom of the dairies site (next to Whitland Police Station). Clr. Jenkins replied that there was no further news to date.
New future projects for Whitland: A meeting date to discuss the new projects for the future of Whitland was agreed for today (Friday, June 5) at 7 pm.
Public meeting, wind turbines: It was reported that the public meeting was very well attended by councillors and members of the public. It was also noted that it should have been Carmarthenshire County Council that called the meeting. However, this did not happen. Residents of Ciffyg may have to hold a second meeting because a number of people did not know anything about the problem.
Mr. Richard Jones, case officer, Carmarthenshire County Council, was carrying out an extremely comprehensive report before any decision was made and this could take up to six months.
It was suggested that a letter be sent to Carmarthenshire County Council asking them why they did not organise the public meeting.
Disabled parking space outside the Post Office and Gwynfa, North Road: The clerk was asked to contact County Clr. Mrs. Allen and obtain a progress report.
Past Mayors badges: It was agreed that the clerk would show the designs to Clr. Jenkins and this would be discussed in the next meeting.
One Voice Wales subscription: The clerk reported that she was in the process of contacting SLCC to obtain a quotation for subscription fees. Further details at the next meeting.
Flower planting: Clr. Mrs. D. Evans confirmed that Whitland ATC were very happy to carry out the planting.
County Councillor's Report: This was not available at the time of the meeting.
Letter from St. David's Avenue Tenants Association: A letter was received asking for financial assistance. It was discussed and suggested that as the deadline date for financial assistance had passed, the town council retained the letter until 2010. The clerk had written to inform the association that they had missed the deadline date for this financial year.
Whitland ABC Club, Whitland Cricket Club, Whitland Memorial Hall, Whitland Town Hall, Whitland Hywel Dda Centre: Letters received thanking the town council for their annual donation.
Planning application: Boots Group PLC, St. John Street, Whitland - new sign outside Boots the Chemist (passed).
To discuss the railways: Clr. Miss R. Morrison raised the subject of an article in the Mail on Sunday from the Transport Minister, Lord Adonis, stating that his "worst experience" had come at railway stations. It was agreed that the clerk would write and say that the town council are also appaled at the railways and supported his comments, also mentioning the Railway Adoption Scheme.
Fly tipping on the road to Cwmfelin Boeth: Members were informed of the fly tipping and a report of the findings would be sent to Carmarthenshire County Council.
Dog fouling: The gardener employed by the town council was upset at the amount of dog fouling in Pocket Park. Members were informed that Carmarthenshire County Council had been contacted and requested a dog fouling sign. Carmarthenshire County Council replied that because the town council leased the ground then it was their responsibility to erect a sign. This was to be monitored.
Drains at the top of Velfrey Road: It was reported that the drains at the top of Velfrey Road were blocked again. The clerk was asked to write and inform Mr. Robert Evans, Pembrokeshire County Council, of the situation.
The next general meeting of Whitland Town Council would take place on Monday, July 6, at 7 pm, in the Mayor's Parlour.
