Crymych Youth 3 pts. Whitland 56
Having lost to Crymych at home earlier in the season, Whitland were in no mood to repeat that effort and totally dominated this game, running in eight unanswered tries in the process.
Indeed, they won the match at a canter and at times played some breathtaking, high class rugby.
Playing up the slope in the first half, Whitland opened the scoring with a try by winger Nico Setaro, which fullback James Stephenson converted, also adding a penalty.
For Crymych, centre Ianto Griffiths kicked their only points with a penalty late in the half to leave Whitland 10 points to three up at the break.
In the second half, the young Borderers showed their pedigree from the kick-off and ran in seven tries through outside-half Jonny Thomas, centre Dafydd Williams, flanker Yannick Parker, fellow flanker Alex Summerbell, captain and winger Scott Newton, prop Brynley Toms and second row Micky Jones, with fullback James Stephenson converting five of them.
Llangennech 2nds 13 pts. Whitland 2nds 20
Whitland 2nd XV moved joint top of the Carmarthen Tyre Services League after a 20 points to 13 away win at Llangennech on Saturday.
It was a very hard game, in very warm conditions, with both sides not giving anything away, but it was Whitland who scored the all-important try in the last minute to gain the three league points.
Llangennech led at the break by 10 points to three, scoring a try by James Cartright, which Chris Bowen converted, and he also slotted a penalty, while for Whitland, Ryan Michael replied with a penalty goal.
In the second half, Whitland, playing down the slope, controlled territory through the boot of outside-half Shane Morgan and fullback Darren Rees, and when Ryan Michael intercepted and scored under the posts and added the conversion, he brought the sides level at 10 points each.
Bowen and Michael traded penalties and with the score at 13 points apiece the game seemed to be heading for a draw, but a mistake by the home side deep in their 22 gave Whitland the scrum and the backs created space for Bermudan winger Shauntian (Puppy) Simmons to score the all-important try, which Michael converted to give Whitland the win by 20 points to 13 and move them level with Llandovery at the top of the table.
Haverfordwest Youth 7 pts.
Whitland Youth 18
Whitland Youth reached the final of the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup for the fourth year on the trot with an 18 points to 7 victory over Haverfordwest Youth in this semi-final clash on Monday evening.
The game was played between two strong sides, but Whitland held the edge in most areas and deserved the win, but the strong travelling support had to wait until the last few mintues before they could finally relax.
It was a great team performance, with the boys playing for each other, both in attack and defence.
Whitland took the lead in the 25th minute when fullback James Stephenson kicked a penalty after Haverfordwest's Ashley Sutton had missed a few earlier chances.
With just minutes left to half-time, the home side took the lead with a try by second row Llewellyn Jones, which Ashley Sutton converted, but before the break, Whitland's James Stephenson cut their lead to one point with his second penalty.
Whitland started the second half strongly, but Stephenson just failed with two early penalty chances.
But they did not have to wait too long for their efforts to be rewarded.
After 11 minutes, from a scrum some 10 metres from the Haverfordwest line, quick thinking by scrum-half Aled Rees saw him work the blind side and cross for a try. It went unconverted, but was enough to give Whitland the lead by 11 points to seven.
Sutton missed another penalty five minutes later and, with Whitland now controlling the game, centre Lewis Thomas produced the killer blow five minutes from time when he scored his side's third try, which James Stephenson converted to leave the final score 18 points to 7 to the cup holders and a well-deserved victory.
