Whitland travelled to face Cwmavon in the third round of the Swalec Welsh Cup and after a workmanlike performance came away victors by 24 points to six, scoring four tries, two in each half.
The Borderers scored the first after just six mintues when outside-half Carwyn Jones made a lovely break, splitting the home defence to put fullback Lee Glanville in at the corner. Jones failed with the conversion.
Ten minutes into the game, Cwm's own outside-half, Neil Gadd, slotted a penalty goal to cut the deficit.
When prop Richard Smith picked up a loose ball on halfway, broke the first tackle and made a dash some 25 metres, he didn't try to force the pass, but went to ground. Quick recycled ball then saw the home side's defence going sideways and scrum-half Gary Davies took off like 'a rat up a drain pipe and left them for dead to score under the posts.
This time, Carwyn Jones added the conversion to extend Whitland's advantage
Cwm's Gadd did slot a penalty on the stroke of half-time to cut the lead to 12 points to six, but in the second half, the Borderers came out determined to make the game safe.
Indeed, after just 10 minutes, they had scored two further tries to secure the victory.
The first came after three minutes when a penalty was awarded which Jones drilled deep into the 22. A good take at the lineout by Carwyn Davies provided quick ball and centre Gary Evans made a half break, before passing to the ever-present Marc Jones, who crashed over for his side's third try, with Carwyn Jones again converting.
Five mintues later, again from a lineout, quick thinking by outside-half Carwyn Jones saw him put in a cross kick which was taken by fullback Lee Glanville, who put wing Gareth Morris away to score Whitland's fourth try, which went unconverted.
This was just about game over and Whitland took the opportunity to make changes, bringing on all the substitutes for a runout and controlling the remainder of the game to win by 24 points to six and going into the fourth round draw.
Excellent preformances came from Lee Glanville, Aled Jones, Carwyn Jones, Marc Jones, Jack Mason and skipper Randall Williams.
Match referee was Mr. D. Williams, of Caldicot.
