On Tuesday there were a total of 1,202 entries in the sheep section, with some 591 approved lambs meeting a typical summer trade and averaging 103.77ppk. Making the top price of 110.60ppk was a pen of 43 kilo lambs from A. and J. Davies, Morfa Farm, Mathry, with other leading prices including 110p (38 kilos) from Walker, Wernlas, Porthyrhyd; and (40 kilos) from Fairclough, Frowen, Login; 108.80p (43 kilos) from Bussell, St. Kennox Farm, Llawhaden; 108.10p (40.5 kilos) from Thomas, Hill Leys, Portfield Gate; 107.90p (41.5 kilos) from G. & J. E. J. Fairclough, Frowen, Login. Top price per head was £49.20 from Hughes, Pentrodyn, Llanddewi Velfrey, with £49 from Lewis, Llangwathen, Lampeter Velfery, and £48.20 from A. and J. Davies. Non-approved lambs sold at 93.75p per kilo. At 610, the number of cull ewes and rams has declined slightly due to seasonal flow, although again the heavier ewes met a very good demand, with a top price of £60 from Price, Bill Farm, Wolfscastle, with other leading prices at £59 from Bowen, Hendrehebog, Peniel; £55 from Thomas, Plas y Forrest Farm. Heavy ewes levelled at £39.72, while lighter types met a more selective trade to average £20.85. Cull rams sold to £40 from Saer, Rhosgoch, Red Roses and averaged £27.61. Dependant upon quality, well fleshed cull cows continue to meet a sustained demand. Top price was £470 for a (655 kilo) Friesian cow from James, Iscoed, Whitland, with others at £382 (655 kilo) from Collins, New House, Rhos, who also sold other cows at £372 (515 kilo) and £368 (550 kilo). The cows forward averaged 59.11p per kilo. Some 36 quality rearing calves once again met a sustained demand and sold to a top price of £202 for a Limousin bull from Davies, Barre Farm, Lampeter Velfery, who also sold another similar calf at £108. A Simmental bull from Bowen, Rose Park, Red Roses, made £195 and heifers sold to a top price of £108 for a Limousin, also from Davies, Barre Farm. Friesian bulls sold from £7 to £40. Auctioneers: J.
