Local MP Simon Hart has urged Network Rail to let motorists know of work taking place at the station level crossing in Whitland to allow drivers to plan ahead and avoid any delays.
The crossing is being closed at various times to enable Network Rail to carry out work to replace barriers and install new trackside signalling equipment.
Vehicles are being diverted via the A40 to St Clears and the A477 to Red Roses until Sunday (June 14) to allow for the work, which will once again resume at the beginning of July, when half road closures will be in place, along with a temporary traffic light system.
Access for emergency vehicles is being granted at all times, who will be escorted across the track.
It is the second time this year that work has been carried out at the facility, and on occasions with a number of night-time closures enforced between midnight and 10 am.
Despite letters being sent out by Network Rail, some locals have complained that they were not aware of the plans.
MP Simon Hart has called for Network Rail to ensure that everyone is made aware of when the road closures will take place between now and Friday, July 12:
“I appreciate that fewer people will be caught out by the overnight closures than the daytime ones, however I do think that eight days’ notice is too short by Network Rail,” he said.
“I had concerns about their lack of publicity for the full closure when it was due to take place last time around - they did not inform a wide enough neighbourhood.
“I am pleased to see that this time there will be no full closure during office and school hours, but I would still urge them to spread the message far and wide for the area to be avoided if at all possible by through traffic for the first two weeks in July when traffic lights will be in use,” added Mr. Hart.
