A Whitland takeaway is celebrating after enjoying a double helping of success at the inaugural ‘Welsh Takeaway Awards 2019’.
The ceremony was held to provide a great opportunity to showcase those who performed well over the past years and are considered the best choice by the public.
Whitland’s Traditional No 8 restaurant located on the High Street picked up the ‘Outstanding Takeaway of the Year’ and the ‘Takeaway of the Year for South West Wales’.
The inaugural Welsh Takeaway Awards 2019 provided a great opportunity to showcase those who performed well over the past years and are considered the best choice by the public.
The awards also celebrated top establishments that strive to be different. They commended those who deliver great food to their customers in a timely manner, making it easier to enjoy their delicious meal all the while in the comfort of their homes.
Several of the awards were split into local regions to ensure the diverse range of businesses from across Wales are recognised for providing unique dishes, creating a true gastronomic experience.
Irfan Younis, CEO of Creative Oceanic said: “Although in the first year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite takeaways.
“This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.
“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.
“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
More silverware could follow for Whitland’s Traditional No 8 in the New Year with the establishment also being nominated for the ‘Best UK takeaway’ where they will go up against takeaways from Cardiff, Pontypridd and Swansea in the Wales category of the British Takeaway Awards (BTAs) which will be held at The Savoy in London on January 27.
The top five takeaways in Wales that received the most public votes have made it through to the star-studded national awards ceremony at The Savoy in the New Year.
The twelve regional winners will be chosen by a panel of judges who will take into consideration the number of votes each finalist received, feedback from a mystery shop, and by reviewing a written submission from the restaurant owners.
The panel will then identify the twelve regional winners and crown an overall winner for the coveted Best Takeaway in Britain award.
As well as the accolade of best takeaway, each regional winners will receive £1,000 and the Best Takeaway in Britain will receive £5,000.
The panel of judges include: Ainsley Harriott - celebrity chef, TV star and best selling author; Sarah Willingham - entrepreneur and former star of BBC2’s Dragons’ Den; Graham Corfield - Chief Operating Officer of Just Eat; Ibrahim Dougus - Chairman of the British Takeaway Campaign; James Hacon - Managing Director of Think Hospitality.
