A well-known Whitland lady, Miss Serina Elliott is organising a concert to raise funds for local charity 'Wings Over Pembrokeshire'.
Members of Wings, including Serina and another Whitland local Kevin Evans and his brothers, will be performing a wide variety of musical genres at Whitland Sports and Social Club on Saturday, October 15, at 7.30 pm.
Wings - which stands for With Inclusion No One Gets Sidelined - is a live music group for people with special needs which meet for a jam session every week in Haverfordwest and once a month in Tenby. It's great fun and attracts people from way beyond the county border, all of whom are able to improve their considerable talents by playing and/or singing with professional musicians, enabling them to perform live gigs like this one in front of an audience.
The benefits in self expression and confidence building, are so far reaching and enduring, that they cannot be stressed highly enough. The jam sessions quickly become the highlight of the week for its members, and Serina, who has Spina Bifida, is no exception. So in recognition of this, and the fact that Wings as a charity relies heavily on donations and fundraising to survive, she is organising this event and hopes it will be well attended.
Local Whitland businesses and residents have already been brilliant in donating some fantastic raffle prizes to be drawn on the night, for which she is very grateful. Wings have proved time and time again to be true entertainers, so it promises to be a great evening!
It will also be an ideal opportunity for anyone thinking of joining Wings to come and see if it's for them. Drinks will be available at the bar throughout, as well as light refreshments served kindly by Whitland WI during the interval, which are included in the price of the entrance ticket.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Sports and Social Club, Serina herself 07972073598 and Anne Goddard 07896326111.
