WHITLAND 131

BRO MYRDDIN CARMARTHEN 96

Whitland and Bro Myrddin enjoyed a friendly fixture at Whitland last Friday evening, followed by an excellent buffet prepared by the club ladies.

Whitland's greater experience on grass was the turning point; Bro Myrddin play on an artificial surface, but to their credit they won on one rink and some of the others were very close encounters.

Peter Wills, who had a foot in both camps - he is the captain of Bro Myrddin for the coming winter season - had a comfortable win over Richard Parry. He was well supported by wife Josie, young Tim Gasgoine and the much-travelled Eric George in a 26-16 success.

Chris Court, Malcolm Holding, John Rees and diminutive Louis Price hit top form to overwhelm the Ken Morris quartet by 35 shots to seven.

Denny Richards, Liam Price, Derrick Ford and Colin Wynn had a close match against Llew Howells. The result was in the balance until the final end, the Whitland rink winning by 16 shots to 14.

Des Jeffries, Brian Griffiths, Dianne Scourfield and Bev Thomas had to pull out all the stops to beat Peter Williams's rink by two shots, 20-18.

Yet another close result was the game between Glyndwr Thomas and Jeremy Woodford - a mere three-shot difference at the end, with the Whitland rink winning 20 shots to 17. Jim Morrison, Sam Holloway and David Jenner all played well giving skip Glyndwr good support.

Richard Court, Daniel Jenner, Roy Croft and Jo Shewry found the portly Les Portman in excellent form. He and his team gave Bro Myrddin their only success by winning 24 shots to 14.

The game was played in excellent spirit and was enjoyed by both teams.

WHITLAND LADIES 22.75 PEMBROKE DOCK 44

Whitland's depleted team -three players on each rink - proved too much of a handicap to overcome against Pembroke Dock, as due to the fact they were a player short on each rink, they had to lose a quarter of their shots.

However, only one shot separated Dianne Scourfield, Josie Wills and Jo Shewry against Dianne Davies, 15 to 16; all the ladies gave a good account of themselves.

Wendy Court, Cally Jones and Andrea Thomas found T. Harries and her ladies in excellent form, losing by 29 shots to 14.

The Whitland Ladies are to be congratulated on playing the match despite being two players short.

STEVE REESE - COUNTY SINGLES CHAMPION

Congratulations to Steve Reese on winning both the Under 35 years and Open Singles at the County Finals last Saturday.

A third success eluded him by one shot - the triples of Steve, Peter Wills and Colin Wynn just missing out.

Ben Thomas and Mark Jones were defeated in the Under 25 years and Under 18 years, respectively, but both gave a good account of themselves.

CARDIGAN 143

Whitland suffered a comprehensive defeat in this friendly encounter played at Cardigan last Sunday. Many regular players were unavailable and the club are indebted to Heatherton for providing a rink.

The Whitland players never came to grips with the heavy Cardigan green, losing on all six rinks.

On two rinks, Whitland managed to keep the shot difference to single figures.

Jim Morrison's rink of Les Evans, Louis Price and Sue Evans lost to B. Davies by 10 shots to 19 - they dropped a four on the last end.

Derrick Ford, Denny Richards, Sam Holloway and David Jenner lost by nine shots, 13-22, to R. Griffiths. Other results were as follows:

Tim Gasgoine, Jo Shewry, Ashley Rees, Roy Croft 5; B. Barton 19.

Carl Smith, Liam Price, Cally Jones, Glyndwr Thomas 11; G. Hackett 24.

Ben Thomas, S. Price, Trevor Williams, Mel Tucker 9; A. Williams 22.

B. Kerrison, C. Braithwaite, Viv Kerrigan, E. Dezell 14; P. Lewis 25.

These friendly fixtures provide the many Whitland youngsters with invaluable experience. On this occasion, the Whitland team contained eight players under 15 years, indeed one eight-years-old! Their turn will come in the future.

WHITLAND BORDERERS 57 PEMBROKE DOCK A 95

Whitland gained only a one rink success in this seconds league encounter. Trevor Williams, Bryan Whitfield, Ryan Thomas and Lionel Thomas won by 10 shots, 23 to 13, over D. Howard. Young Ryan played well and was not in the least overawed to be playing with adults.

Derrick Ford, Mel Tucker, S. Aston, another new youngster and Deputy Mayor Les Evans lost by 29 shots to 11 against B. Morgan.

Roy Croft, Peter Wills, Liam Price and Carl Smith fared a little better, losing by 23 shots to 11. The front two players, primary school pupils Carl and Liam, are to be congratulated on their performance; their bowling and etiquette on the green was excellent.

Eric George, just back from the Norwegian Fjords, Rod Richards, Ben Thomas and Louis Price went down by 30 shots to 13 against G. Gillard.

The Whitland team contained six young schoolboys who all acquitted themselves very well. Well done boys.
