WHITLAND 41 PEMBROKE DOCK 32
Whitland ladies maintained their fine form with a close victory over Pembroke Dock ladies, each team winning on one rink, but Whitland winning on the overall score to gain four points. Cally Jones, Cynthia Evans, Kathy Jenner and Rebecca Thomas chalked up 27 shots against Jean Morgan's rink who scored 17. Pembroke Dock gained a one shot victory on the other rink with Diana Davies's rink scoring 15 shots and the Whitland rink of Josie Wills, Jo Shewry, Shirley Hammond and Sue Evans scoring 14 shots. Mention must be made of the vast improvement of the Whitland green this season, no doubt contributing to the excellent bowls played.
WHITLANd 59 PRIORY, HAVERFORDWEST 28
Whitland ladies gained the maximum six points in their league match against Priory, with an impressive all-round display. Dianne Scourfield's rink of Josie Wills, Val Whiteford and Shirley Hammond were in excellent form - a real team effort resulting in a comprehensive win 33 shots to 12. Captain Sue Evans skipped her rink of Joan Nolan, Cynthia Evans and Jo Shewry to a 26 shots to 16 win - again all four playing excellent bowls. At present, the ladies are setting a fine example for the men to follow. Well done ladies! MEN'S SECTION
WHITLAND 91 MILFORD HAVEN 57
Whitland returned to championship form with an excellent victory over a very competitive Milford Haven team. Whitland gained the maximum 14 points by winning on all four rinks. In ideal weather conditions and on a vastly improved responsive green, some first class bowls was played by both teams. The irrepressible Colin 'Awesome' Wynn was in fine form - in his usual 'refined quiet' manner stated: 'I was on fire!' His rink provided the most exiting encounter. From being nine-one up in the first-half, they ran out 20-19 winners - an excellent game with all players contributing. Well done boys! Captain Alan Whitehouse's rink of Shane Webster, Huw 'Beano' Nicholas and the energetic 'Tights' Thomas won the kitty by winning 28 shots to 12. The front end were very competitive, enabling Tim and Alan to build some excellent 'heads' with some fine bowls. The competitive skip Glyndwr Thomas was in fine form, as were the rest of his rink Matthew Court, Denny Richards and the expressive and demonstrative Dan Jenner. They recorded a solid win 22-13. The imaginative Steve Reese, whose valuable reading of the 'head' prior to delivery his final bowl mystifies the opposition, had a great game. He was well-supported by youngsters Jon Seeley and Ryan Thomas, while veteran Peter Wills 'calmed' things down. A 21-14 win reflected the play of the homeside.
