WHITLAND 117

DARTFORD AND DISTRICT 132

Whitland, without a league game, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of a friendly mixed encounter against visiting tourists Dartford and District.

These friendly matches against touring teams enable the club's selectors to try out different combinations and it makes for a most pleasant afternoon when the ladies, men and juniors can play together as one team.

The tourists, who first visited Whitland in 1989, were warmly welcomed by captain Josie Wills and their president and captain responded by praising the progress made by the Whitland club since their previous visit; they were all impressed by the new clubhouse. He stated one thing was constant - and that was the warm welcome.

The game, played in excellent spirit, went in favour of the visitors, despite Whitland winning on four rinks.

Rink scores were as follows (Whitland first, Dartford and District skips only):

Sue Evans, Sam Holloway, M. Powell, Jim Morrison 19; T. Farthing 17.

M. Holding, Ken Thomas, Simon Tucker, Chris Court 21; C. Gillet 15.

Jo Shewry, Brian Whitfield, Dave Jenner, Colin Wynn 11; G. Haskins 35.

D. Rees, Louis Price, Brian Griffiths, Mike Williams 23; N. Nicholas 21.

A. Reese, Kathy Jenner, Denny Richards, Des Jeffries 26; G. Riches 21.

Mark Jones, Josie Wills, Bill Allen, Peter Wills 17; B. Burns 23.

Whitland's next league game is against Five Arches, Tenby.

WHITLAND LADIES 33

ST. ISSELL'S 38

Playing away at Saundersfoot, Whitland Ladies were narrowly defeated by five shots by St. Issell's.

Playing her first competitive league game for Whitland was new recruit Bronwen Llewellyn, who made a most promising debut.

Susan Evans, Jo Shewry, Cally Jones and Deanne Scourfield all played well to draw 17-all against the A. J. Lewis quartet.

Josie Wills, Bronwen Llewellyn, Val Whiteford and Elizabeth Pratt found G. Dugmore and her ladies in good form and lost a close match by five shots.

Tuesday evening's match at home against Haverfordwest Priory fell victim of the inclement weather, and was abandoned after six ends and has been re-arranged for August 28.
