WHITLAND 98 HAVERFORDWEST 57
Whitland Bowls Club thoroughly deserved their victory over close rivals Haverfordwest, outplaying their opponents in all departments. The team, well led by captain Glyndwr Thomas, who returned to form in full style, all made marked contributions to this excellent result.
Pride of place must go to Glyndwr Thomas's rink of Simon Tucker, dad Mel Tucker and Malcolm Holding, who completely overwhelmed Roy Fairhurst and his rink to win by 30 shots (35-5). Such was their superiority that only three shots had been given away by the 16th end.
Chris Court's rink of Eric George, Aaron Thomas and Mihael Williams were also in fine form, winning by 11 shots against Anthony 'Wilko' Wilks.
My 'awesome' Wynn, skipping for the first time this season, held off a late challenge by Roger Price to record a two-shot victory. "I'm walking on water," said Colin when leading by 12 shots on the 14th end - literally true, as the weather was very inclement. However, 'the tide nearly went out' by the 20th end! He was given sterling support by Doug Richards, Brian Griffiths and short-mat expert John Rees.
Stephen Reese's rink went down in a close match by two shots against P. D. S. Jenkins. Ben Thomas, Brian Whitfield and Morlais Powell all had good games.
The 12 league points were most welcome and should ensure the team progress up the league table. Next Saturday the teams play the return fixture, but this time Haverfordwest will have home advantage.

GOSCAR 110
Goscar certainly turned the tables on Whitland last Thursday evening on their excellent home green. Whitland anticipated a win following the corresponding match at Whitland well won by the home side. However, the determined Tenby team put on a first class display of bowling.
Biggest casualty was Simon Tucker's rink of Peter Wills, young Louis and Rod Richards who went down by 32 shots to 11 - the extra yard of 'running' on the green completely fooled the Whitland quartet. J. Hubbard, who had an excellent game, ably supported by Graham Stubbs, thoroughly deserved their win.
Derrick Ford, Richard Court, Sam Holloway and Aaron Thomas did not fare much better against Bill Bailey, losing by 32 shots to 15.
Whitland's tale of woe continued with captain Eric George, Glyndwr Thomas, Ben Thomas and Doug Morgan on the end of a 10-shot beating by the humorous veteran Lewis Hilling, 24 shots to 14.
However, Whitland regained a little pride with an eight-shot victory by David Davies and his rink of Tim 'Tights' Thomas, Carl Smith and Mel Tucker over Graham Hill.
David continued his impressive return to bowls and it was good to see Tim playing his first game of the season.
Both will be welcomed into the first team fold in the near future.
Captain Eric - home for a short time between cruises - still managed to retain a smile in the clubhouse despite coming second on this occasion.
