A Whitland family bakery has swept up at a top awards competition, after only nine months in business.

Sir Benfro Bakery, based on the Spring Gardens Industrial Estate, won the title of Welsh Bakery of the Year at the Welsh Baking Exhibition in Cardiff recently.

They also managed to take home first place awards for their multi wheat loaf and Pembrokeshire Celtic bread, and certificates for their hot cross buns, white bread and sausage rolls.

Kevin Reeve, who runs the business along with wife Jo and their two children Tom and Laura, was delighted with their success after only a short time in business.

"It was a surprise when our son Tom came back with the trophies and all the certificates, but we're all over the moon with the achievement and very proud to bring such a success to Whitland; it's been a real team effort," said Kevin, whose father and grandfather were bakers.

The bakery supplies to shops throughout Pembrokeshire and Kevin can't thank their customers enough for their support.

"We have a great rapport with our customers and without their tremendous support we wouldn't have achieved any of this."

Sir Benfro Bakery has gone from strength to strength since teaming up with worldwide company Puratos and Kevin believes they are in for busy summer.

"The signs are encouraging for us so far and hopefully this is just the start of a great future, as we've got a few ideas in the pipeline to offer an even wider range of products to our customers."
