WHITLAND 16 pts

LLANHARAN 23

Whitland are still waiting to register their first victory in division one of the National League after going down narrowly to Llanharan, who deserved their victory for being able to turn their chances into points.

Llanharan opened the scoring at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn with a penalty in the third minute through fullback Chris John.

Whitland levelled the score two minutes later from a drop goal by outside-half Simon Rogers, following a solid scrum and a half-break by centre Sengili Tuihalamaka.

Llanharan regained the lead in the 10th minute with another Chris John penalty.

Whitland scored the only try of the half through number eight Ricky Davies, who picked up from the base of a scrum and bulldozed his way over from 15 metres out, Rogers failing with the conversion attempt.

Immediately from the restart, Llanharan were awarded another penalty, but this time Chris John failed with his attempt at goal to leave the half-time score at 8-6 to the Borderers.

Llanharan opened the scoring in the second half with a well-worked backline move to send winger Nicky Morgan over in the corner for an unconverted try in the second minute.

Whitland levelled the score five minutes later with a Simon Rogers penalty when Llanharan were penalised for pulling down at a lineout, but he failed to edge his side ahead when he was off target with another in the eighth minute and also missed with a drop goal chance in the 10th minute.

The turning point of the game came in the 22nd minute when Llanharan ran in two tries in as many minutes through their wingers Nicky Morgan, his second of the game, and Scott Bowen, Chris John converting one to give a score of 11-23.

Whitland came back in the 30th minute and scored an unconverted try through number eight Ricky Davies, also his second of the game, as he again picked up at the base of a scrum and forced his way over from 20 metres, the scrum coming following another good break by centre Tuihalamaka.

The Borderers fought hard in the closing stages, but could not cross the Llanharan line again, going down by 23-16.
