THE Badham One Name Society will be holding its 10th annual conference in the new Amroth Parish Hall at Summerhill in May.
If you are a Badham living in south-west Wales, your roots are most likely round Saundersfoot or Tenby where the Badham surname still has some of its stronghold.
The name also goes back a long way in the Welsh Marches counties of Gwent and Hereford. Some of the families in Glamorgan and Monmouth migrated with their coal-mining skills from the area around Saundersfoot, and especially Begelly, to help work the developing south-east Wales mines.
Many local families originate from the marriage of two brothers, George and John, who were both married at the parish church in Begelly on May 7, 1803.
The Badham One Name Society is always interested to find out more about the origins of the name in Pembrokeshire and will be holding its 10th annual conference in the new Amroth Parish Hall at Summerhill on May 17 and anyone interested is welcome to attend.
More about the society, the conference and a book on the surname may be found on the society's website http://www.badham.org.uk">www.badham.org.uk
As part of the society's efforts to find out more about the origins of the various family lines, the society is conducting a study into the male Y-chromosome patterns. A small number of 50 per cent grants are available for male Badhams who come from Pembrokeshire or Carmarthen families. You will need to have some knowledge of your Badham family history, although the society may well be able to help with this.
For further information or contact, please visit the website or write to the society secretary, Peter Badham, at Old School House, Old Radnor, Presteigne, Powys, LD8 2RH.
