Sir,
The elderly in Wales and all over Great Britain are considered too expensive to be given the care they are entitled to. According to the Secretary of State, the money to finance the want of a new hospital here in Tenby seems to have to be debated over and over again. When will a final decision ever be made?
Tenby needs a community hospital with beds, and staffed by NHS and nurses on the same site.
Some £8m. has been made available.
There is hardly a family in Tenby who have not had sick or terminally ill relatives cared for at the Cottage Hospital. It has been seven years since the decision to close the Cottage Hospital was announced. Is anyone thinking what affect it must be having on the lovely nurses and staff there?
Thousands of pounds have been spent on various investigations, and still no decision has been made.
Shame on this Government and their supporters, and the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG).
The elderly have the call on the wealth of this country; they earned it. The kitty was filled by their efforts and sacrifices and is emptied by those who have no concept of fair play.
The money to finance the 'wants', not necessarily the 'needs', for anyone living in Britain - even criminals - is always available, but the elderly and the sick in our little corner of Wales have to be considered over and over again.
I say to all the people of Tenby and Pembrokeshire, let's shout louder!
Bob Lowe,
'Kendora',
Park Road,
Tenby.
